1st XI v Braunton (Home)

Not a lot to report from the first home game for the 1st XI of 2026, as the weather intervened in typical first game fashion.

The skipper won the toss, and with one eye on the forecast invited Braunton to bat.

Opening up with Isaac Withington and Mike Smith they quickly reduced the batting side to 39-2 off the only 9 overs to be bowled, both wickets to Issac who finished with 4-0-20-2 for his trouble. The odd over was bowled by Justin Pringle before the rain ended play early. 8-points for the abondonment plus the single bowling bonus point for the 2 wickets.

Stokeinteignhead 1sts v 2nd XI (Away)

Not much to report from this game as the weather intervened without a ball being bowled! A strong side was looking forward to our first game in the E-Division West but it wasn’t to be.

Better luck next week!

3rd XI v Lewdown 2nds (Home – Sunday)

Back Row (L to R): T Small, J Eslick, J Vaughan, R Hulme, D Snow, S Street Front Row (L to R): M Kerr (wk), K Lardner, K Horsburgh (c), S Cogger, E Weller

The 3rd XI played their first ever match at the Memorial Ground on Sunday, and definitely got the best of the weather!

A damp and misty morning gave way to an ever drying and sunnier afternoon and the game was on.

Skipper Kai, lost the toss and Lewdown invited Stoke to set a total to chase. Dan Snow and Josh Vaughan opened the innings for Stoke and with some steady batting from one end, and a dash of derring-do at the other, made it rapidly to 69 before Josh fell for 18. A minor stumble with a couple of quick wickets threatened to derail the afternoon for Stoke, but a middle order fight back by the skipper, Sam Cogger and James Eslick got the total moving forward again.

By the time Coggers barbecue’d Snowy who’d batted brilliantly for 38, 200 looked on the cards but the overs were passing by rapidly. A swashbuckling 22 from Kyle and a diligent 7 from Eddie Weller meant Stoke finished the innings all-out for 193, with a ball remaining of the innings. Just short of the last batting bonus point, but an excellent total in difficult conditions.

A solid start was needed by the Stoke bowlers and Simon Street got tore in early with 2 quick wickets, ably assisted by some excellent line and length from James at the other end. Eddie picked up his first senior wicket in his spell, and Kyle and Vaughany ripped the guts out of the Lewdown resistance with 5 wickets between them for a miserly 11 runs! Lewdown were dismissed for 107 in a little under 25 overs and Stoke posted a big 19 point win

Highlights:

Dan Snow 38, Kyle Lardner 22, Kai Horsburgh 19, James Eslick 19, Sam Cogger 16

Josh Vaughan 3-6, Simon Street 3-30, Kyle Lardner 2-5
